Holographic storage!
General Electric is reporting that they have developed cost-effective holographic storage! They've come up with a new approach to the problem, one that will be backwards compatible; a holographic disc reader that will also read CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray! They also say that when it's ready, it will most likely cost around $0.10 per gigabyte, which is about 20% of blu-ray's per-gigabyte cost right now.
