ch@tter (aka story time)

Playoffs?! Don’t talk to me about Playoffs?!

One of my favorite lines,  but it is a shame that Jim Mora Sr. is known more for that comment (or how he answered a question) then coaching.

This is a very sad time of year for me.  Playoff time in the NFL.  I have come to a sad realization that the season is over soon.  I no longer have football to watch in HD Thursday thru Monday.  My updates on NFL.com are less frequent.  I don’t know what to do with my spare time?!

You see I have a ritual for Sundays and football.  I always made sure everything that I need to get done for home and work are done by noon on FOOTBALL Sunday.  If anything comes up, tough!!!  I order wings, bought chips, beer and other bad-for-ya food.  We would tune into the NFL preshow (fox is my fav).  Then, run around to all the TVs and tune into different games.  Log into NFL.com to monitor all the other games that we don’t get, because I can’t bring myself to get that satellite attached to my home.  Send taunting text messages to my football buddies.  This would end after the Monday night game.   It is a magical time.

But alas, all good things must come to an end.  Now, I get to watch games that end in grown men crying.  I see sport reports of how Favre should have been benched (this breaks my heart), I see all the poor choices for MVP and other sports awards that are handed out at this time and want to SCREAM.  I watch so many lives destroyed by firing coaches and their staff (which generally means their relatives who worked for them are booted too). And then I get that sinking feeling again:  It’s almost over.  I don’t want to see this people!  I want to see scores, injury reports, highlights and vote for the players of the week.

I want to go back to August and start over again.  I want to make Mike’s famous chili.  I want to have that feeling that my team might take it all this year or at least have a winning record.

I do love NFL football – I even named my dogs after two of the greatest quarterbacks – Diesel Favre and Ripley Montana.  I don’t love the draft, college football or the scouting combine.  BORING!

Can somebody please wake me when it’s that magical time again?
